Black Kitchen Cabinets
It’s funny the way tastes change
from generation to generation. My grandmother’s kitchen was stark white apart from
the floor. Everything was painted with white gloss, she liked it because it looked clean, but to me it looked like
an operating room, cold and unwelcoming. The thought of black kitchen cabinets probably would have given her a
seizure!
Then we had – and thank goodness the trend didn’t
last – harvest gold and avocado green appliances, and whatever color cabinets you could possibly get to match those
horrendous colors.
Why Black Kitchen Cabinets?
All my electronics are black, and I have black
leather furniture and black accessories. I like black, and when black kitchen appliances started to become available I slowly replaced all
the old cream and white appliances with black ones and I love the contemporary look.
Black kitchen cabinets will be next with sharp
looking speckled grey black and gold granite or some other kind of countertops to
contrast. My present cabinets
are sturdy, and there may be a possibility I can strip the finish and simply paint them
black.
Unfinished wood cabinets can looked really cool
stained ebony black, or you can go the whole hog and purchase some of the awesome black cabinets that are available
ready to hang. With technology in
both paint and cabinet finishes, they are extremely easy to keep clean and very hard to damage.
The look of black kitchen cabinets, a contrasting
floor and stainless steel appliances also looks awesome and very masculine – a great combination for a bachelor pad
or single male home.
While you’re having your black kitchen cabinets
installed, make sure to add some under cabinet lighting too.
This will really show off your kitchen at night and give a warm and welcoming look –
even though the majority of the cabinetry is black.
What Goes With Black Kitchen
Cabinets?
If you want to get really wild, pretty much any other
color goes with black and you could even keep your floors and ceilings white. Light colored ceilings do add a
feeling of height to any room, even if the ceilings are low, plus if you do have overhead lighting as the main
source of light in your kitchen a white ceiling will reflect a lot more light than a darker colored
ceiling.
Black cabinets contrasted with shocking pink or burnt
orange look great, or you could just go with a hardwood floor.
Black is easier to work with than white and it will look
spectacular.
Do you also want the insides of your cabinets black
too? It may make them a little
dark, but if you are having your cabinets custom made, the addition of a light that comes on when you open a
cabinet door would look great and be very helpful.
With new lighting technology and xenon bulbs, the new lights won’t send your
power bills into the stratosphere!
If you have enough room to eat in your kitchen a
contemporary dining room table and chairs can complement the look of your black kitchen cabinets, and some
jazzy retro fabric on the chair seats will look eye-catching with your black kitchen
cabinets for sure.
